» The 1980s witnessed a large number of seafarers who were seeking employment aboard foreign vessels.

» While Sri Lanka is traditionally a seafaring nation, Ceyline Shipping recognised the need to raise training standards to meet present day international shipping requirements.

» The company ventured into the recruitment service and the Group set up the CINEC Maritime Campus in 1989 to provide a sound training to seafarers.

 

Crew Pool

» The company´s crew pool consists of experienced and qualified Officers as well as Ratings

» The crew pool contains 2400 seafarers, with approximately 500 on a stand-by list. Around 700 crew members are employed at sea at any given time.

» Ceyline also maintains a crew pool that can be employed aboard Passenger Cruise Ships. These potential employees pocesses the skills needed to function within the hospitality industry.

Selection and Engagement Procedure

» The Company has in place a well-defined selection procedure which ensures that only the most qualified and best disciplined seafarers are recruited.

» Selection procedure consists of a series of interviews conducted by a high level panel consisting of Marine Professionals.

» Interviews ensure a thorough evaluation of the applicant´s professional competency. If necessary, trade tests are conducted to access candidate´s skills.

 

Training

» Seafarers recruited by the company are trained at the Colombo International Nautical & Engineering College - CINEC Maritime Campus.

» CINEC is the largest maritime education and training facility to be approved by the Directorate of Merchant Shipping in Sri Lanka.

» CINEC stresses the importance of quality. This is evident by the fact that it has been awarded ISO 9001, accreditation ISO 14001 Environmental Standards and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.

» CINEC is the only training institution in Sri Lanka to receive the National Quality Award for excellence in educational services.

 

Shore based Industry

Supply of Skilled Personnel to the Shore Based Industry

» Ceyline Shipping recruits professionals and skilled labour for shore-based industries such as Thermal Power Plants and Ship Repair Facilities.

» An initial project was the recruitment of staff for one of Sri Lanka’s largest Thermal Power Plants.

» Ceyline Shipping offers competitive quotes for Bunkering in Sri Lanka.

» Ceyline was appointed as a Principal Broker to tender for the affreightment of crude oil by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) in 2004.

 

P&I Club Representation

» Ceyline Shipping acts as a correspondent for prestigious P&I Clubs. The Company provides services in the legal, commercial and technical fields.

» Ceyline represents the marine liability mutual, the North of England Protection and Indemnity Association or NEPIA (UK). NEPIA provides protection and indemnity insurance to 2,750 merchant ships globally with a total entered tonnage of 50 million GT.

» An expert panel of professionals are able to provide advice on subjects of insurance and loss prevention.

PI club

Ceyline represents the North of England Protecting and Indemnity Association of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom as Club Correspondent.

Flag State

» Flag State Representation is another area of specialization for Ceyline thus providing Flag State Services in processing applications for Seafarers Identification and Record Books, verification of special qualification certificates and all Officer certificates, survey of ships and investigations since year 1986.
